Här har ni en excelfil på Ritz tafsfomel med några olika faktorer och exempel. Man vet aldrig, ni kanske känner er lite retro nån gång.

just curious, do you you really use this 60-20-20 formula for fishing ? don't get me wrong, i think it's a fantastic formula, the proportions are ideal and is what i use for fly casting or streamers or heavy flies.
however for typical 'trout-type' fishing with dries, wets or nymphs in smaller sizes, which i believe Ritz originally made this formula for, i find the 20% tippet much too short for most waters, streams, rivers or lakes.
longer tippets mean less fun casting but usually it also means more fish !

Yes I use the 60-20-20 for trout fishing. I think the Ritz is on the nicer side of things in terms of turnover, especially on a MED or other lines with longer front tapers . For streamers and bigger flies I use tapers with much stronger turnover, like the Rajeff streamer taper for example, that´s also pretty much what I use for compeditive casting aswell nowadays. When I toss furry rabbit stuff on sinkers I use short and thick 50-25-25 tapers, works great!

When doing difficult dryfly or nymph I use a higher factor for length, sometimes up to 1,8 and even 2,0 rod lenghts sometimes. And yes, if conditions dictate I play around with the tippet length and sometimes it ends up being very long and thin. Bitchy to cast but as you wrote, but sometimes needed to catch difficult fish.

my guess is that it comes down to fishing pressure, water clarity, geographical differences, etc, etc, etc.
fish don't seem to be too picky in Sweden...
